Colour Vision: A Clue to Hue in V2
نویسنده
چکیده
Where do our brains encode all the colours of the rainbow? We know the neural basis for colour opponency and colour contrast, and recent studies have now provided evidence for the representation of hue in cortical visual area V2.

Colour vision in normal subjects tested by the colour arrangement test ‘Roth 28-hue desaturated’
The aim of the study was to obtain normal values for the colour-arrangement test, Roth 28-hue desaturated. In 146 healthy non-smokers colour vision was tested monocularly. The subjects were divided into four age groups: 0-19, 20-39, 40-59, and 60-79 years. The overall error score for all groups was 54 +/- 24 (median +/- mean absolute deviation). The values for the 20-39 year group were signific...
متن کاملEffect of Illumination on Colour Vision Testing with Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test: Customized Colour Vision Booth versus Room Illumination
PURPOSE To evaluate a customized, portable Farnsworth-Munsell 100 (FM 100) hue viewing booth for compliance with colour vision testing standards and to compare it with room illumination in subjects with normal colour vision (trichromats), subjects with acquired colour vision defects (secondary to diabetes mellitus), and subjects with congenital colour vision defects (dichromats). METHODS Disc...
متن کاملA Theory of Unique Hues and Colour Categories in the Human Colour Vision
A novel approach to assessing colour appearance is described. It is based on a new technique—partial hue-matching—which allows for measuring colour in terms of component hues objectively, without resorting to verbal definitions. The new method is believed to have a potential to be as exact as colorimetric techniques. In contrast to classical colour matching, which implies visual equivalence of ...
متن کاملHuman Colour Vision: 2. Colour Appearance and Cortical Transformations
Four terms (red, green, yellow, and blue) are necessary and sufficient to describe the appearance of hue. Parvo cells of the LGN respond maximally to modulation along either an S-(L+M) or an L-M axis, but few cells are tuned to intermediate directions. These axes do not correspond to the colour appearance axes. Colour appearance requires at least one more stage of processing, a stage that trans...
متن کاملUnique hues: an old problem for a new generation
The practical success of the classical theories of colour vision, such as that of Young-Helmholtz when applied to the measurement and reproduction of colour stimuli, and that of Hering's in art and architecture, has overshadowed the fact that neither theory achieved its main goal, namely to explain colour qualities. Neither the three types of cone, nor the first opponent stages of neural proces...
